📢 Maths Fun in 1st and 2nd Class: Exploring 3D Shapes!
The past two weeks have been an exciting mathematical adventure for our 1st and 2nd Class pupils as they delved into the fascinating world of 3D shapes! This engaging topic had the children exploring, investigating, and creating in ways that brought maths to life.
Discovering Shapes in the World Around Us
We began our journey by identifying 3D shapes in our local environment. From spotting cubes and cylinders in the classroom to finding spheres and cones in the playground, the children quickly realised just how many 3D shapes surround us every day.
Hands-On Learning
To truly understand these shapes, the pupils:
- Investigated their properties—counting faces, edges, and vertices.
- Learned to use mathematical language like "prism," "pyramid," and "curved surface" with confidence.
- Conducted fun experiments to test if the shapes could roll, stack, or slide. It was all giggles and gasps as some shapes rolled away faster than expected!
Creating Masterpieces
The highlight of the two weeks was undoubtedly the construction challenge. Armed with lollipop sticks and playdough, our young mathematicians got to work building their very own 3D shapes. The classroom buzzed with creativity as cubes, pyramids, and even more ambitious designs took shape. The sense of pride and achievement was evident on every face!
Why It Matters
Through this hands-on and interactive approach, the children not only deepened their understanding of 3D shapes but also developed skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking—all while having loads of fun.
We’re so proud of all our budding engineers and mathematicians! Keep an eye out for more exciting learning adventures coming soon.
