As part of their Geography curriculum, our 1st and 2nd class students recently enjoyed a delightful nature walk in Heywood. During the outing, the children explored the rich variety of native Irish trees, identifying species such as the oak, ash, holly, and Scots pine. They sorted these trees into deciduous and evergreen categories, learning how some trees shed their leaves in autumn while others stay green year-round.
The woods were a stunning display of autumn colours, with leaves turning vibrant shades of orange, yellow, and red, making the experience even more magical. The students closely examined the unique leaf patterns of each tree and observed their fruits. For example, they learned to identify the acorns of the mighty oak and the red berries of the holly. It was heartwarming to see the children enthusiastically apply their classroom knowledge to understand and appreciate the natural beauty of their local environment.
A special thank you to our teachers for making this hands-on learning experience both fun and educational!
